Safety Data Sheets - UK Law

Safety Data Sheets are a legal requirement under the UK REACH (registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals) Regulation. A supplier of chemicals must provide up-to-date Safety Data Sheets in the following circumstances:

1. The substance or mixture they are supplying is classified as hazardous under CLP Regulation and is supplied for use in the workplace (whether packaged or not),

2. The substance or mixture is not classified as hazardous but still contains small amounts of hazardous substances,

3. The substance or mixture meets the criteria of persistent or very persistent, bio-accumulative and toxic (PBT or vPvB) to the environment, in accordance with REACH Regulation, and

4. The substance or mixture appears on the UK REACH Candidate list of substances of very high concern (SVHCs) for authorisation.

 

Safety Data Sheets are important in helping to identify hazardous substances in the workplace.
